April Favourites 2018

It’s been absolutely ages since I wrote a Favourites post or posted a video. To be honest I usually think these types of things work better in videos but I’m just not feeling youtube these days or have enough time.

Skincare wise it was time to step things up. I bought a lot of new stuff from The Ordinary and my favourite is the Glycol Acid 7% Toning Solution. I had previously used the Pixi Glow Tonic, which is 5%, for a few years and loved the stuff but figured it was time to upgrade. I also upgraded my retinol but I wasn’t as confident putting that in this favourites, maybe in a few months time. This stuff does tingle but my skin is feeling plumper and fresher and make up always sits so much better once I’ve used this stuff. I use this every morning after cleansing and before serum and moisturiser. My full Skincare Routine post, if you want it.

Make Up wise I’m all about fresh dewy skin these days. The IT Cosmetics CC cream is a wonderful product. Everyone is going nuts for it. I picked a tube up in New York last November and not really looked back. I’d say its a medium but buildable coverage. I used a beauty blender so its a lighter coverage to start but again buildable. The pump on the end of the tube is also extremely handy.

The Charlotte Tilbury Flawless Filter is probably my favourite product of all month. I got it a week or two after launch and put it under “wedding make up” to justify it but franky I’ve been using it everyday. Its just the most perfect skin boost. I pop this on top of foundation on my cheekbones, on my nose and forehead and blend in with my beauty blender to create a seamless highlight. Its natural looking too and the size of it 30ml making it a really long lasting product (I hope, I’ve only been using it for one month).

More Charlotte Tilbury products to die for are the Eyes to Mesmerise Cream Eyeshadows. I have Jean and Marie Antoinette and can some how, with just two colours, create a range of looks with these. Go light for an everyday look or I create a smokier eye for going for drinks or dinner after work. These stay put on the lids well for a cream shadow and appear to be lasting for a long long time.

The Glossier Cloud Paints are a bit of a hit and miss product. For me it took ages to work out how to use them and be happy with them but in April we worked it out and became BFFs.  I mix Beam and Dusk together and apply with my fingers. I find it creates a really natural flush and used with the Flawless Filter and a light base like the CC cream its the perfect natural make up for every day.

The same can be said for the Glossier Stretch Concealer. I’m lucky that I don’t get too many spots so for me this is great. I use it under my eyes for a quick sweep of colour which although doesn’t make my dark under eye circles invisible it doesn’t dry them out or crease through out the day. For me, I’d rather not have to check my make up multiple times a day and with this I dont have to worry that I look 45 by lunch time. As its been the longest time since I saw some sun I’ve even re-purchased it in the light shade as the Medium and me are just no longer a match.

Favourites shouldn’t just be make up and cleansers so this time I’m throwing in a book. Feminist Fight Club by Jessica Bennett is a must read for all people, regardless of gender. If you identify as a woman you need to read this and if you dont, you need to read this to see how we feel and what we go through. There’s even a letter specifically to guys. I suggest cutting it out, photocopying it and doing a desk drop to all the men in your work place. I’d do it but I’m only on a fixed contract and i’m not too keen on getting my “militant feminist” nickname just yet (thats what I’ve been called everywhere else) For women this book is a life line. Yes its very first world problems but its not white feminism. It deals with gender inequality and highlights throughout the book just how much harder it is if you’re a none white female too (It even breaks it down by race in parts). Parts of the book left me thinking theres no hope, I should give up, while others made me want to start my own club and to start making more of a difference about issues that affect us all.

So there it is. I’m not sure if ill do a monthly favourites or maybe a quarterly one. I don’t change things too much so monthly seems daft. Let me know what you've been loving too.
